Introduction
Urmston Grammar is a highly successful 11-18 co-educational grammar school with an outstanding national and local reputation for academic excellence in a caring community. We are also one of the first 30 "new academies" approved by the Secretary of State in September 2010.
The school attracts and retains staff who possess a wealth of experience, knowledge and expertise. As caring professionals, our commitment to the welfare and pastoral care of our students is aimed at allowing each of our students to flourish.
The school grounds are secure and self contained, with mature trees complementing buildings that reflect both the tradition associated with Grammar School education and the vision for the future.
OfSTED again described the school as "Outstanding" in the November 2008 inspection and we have also been identified as one of the Governments' "High Performing Specialist Colleges". We are a Science College with Languages specialism and we are now a recognised national centre of excellence for Science.
General information
The principal aim of our school is to develop the full potential of each pupil academically, artistically, emotionally, morally, physically and socially so that he/she is able to take his/her place in society as a mature, discerning and caring adult.
The school seeks to provide extensive opportunities, enrichment and stimulation for the achievement of individual excellence; to prepare pupils for living in a complex, technological world; to help pupils to adapt to the demands of Higher Education and work; to encourage pupils in the belief that self-discipline is the best form of discipline and to develop in our pupils self-respect and a concern for others in the community.
